Welcome to “Praying the Psalms with Jesus” Summer series. There is no video for today BUT I do have a weekend excursion for you.

This weekend, read and listen to Psalms 22-31.

We know from the Scriptures that Jesus prays two of these Psalms from the cross. The Gospels reveal that Jesus cries out …

Psalm 22:1: “My God, My God why have you forsaken me?”(Matt. 27:46/Mark 15:34)

and

Psalm 31:5: “Into your hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46)

Though the Gospels don’t reveal that Jesus prayed out loud all of Psalm 22 or Psalm 31, some have suggested that Jesus “silently prayed” all of the Psalms from Psalm 22 through Psalm 31 while hanging on the cross.

It is an interesting thought. What do you think?

Again, though only Psalm 22:1 and Psalm 31:5 are recorded in the Gospels as coming from the lips of Jesus, it is in keeping with the central message of the Psalms that all of the Scriptures do speak of the person and work of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.

Here’s the weekend excursion:
